Why grading decides how long pavement lasts

Grading is a fundamental part of construction and paving, and it significantly influences the stability and functionality of a surface. Our grading professionals shape and contour the terrain to create level, well-drained ground, ensuring water runs off where it should and preventing issues like erosion.

Whether we are preparing a construction site, improving a roadway or building the foundation for a parking lot, our focus on precision and attention to detail produces a stable, uniform surface. That properly graded foundation contributes directly to the longevity and performance of the pavement built on top of it.

Grading in the sequence of a project

Grading usually follows dirt work such as clearing and excavation, and comes before base placement and new paving. Doing both under one contractor keeps tolerances and drainage intent consistent from the dirt to the finished surface. Our article What Is Site Grading? explains the process in more detail.

Questions

Grading questions

What does site grading accomplish?

Grading shapes and contours the ground so water runs off properly, erosion is limited, and the next layer — base and pavement, or a building pad — sits on a stable, uniform surface.

Do you handle small grading jobs as well as large ones?

Yes. Our team handles grading jobs big or small.

Can you pave after grading the site?

Yes. We grade and pave, so the same team carries the project from the graded foundation to the finished asphalt or concrete surface.
