Grading and paving are hard to undo. Asking the right questions up front protects your budget, your schedule and the life of the pavement.
1. Is the license active?
California's Contractors State License Board (CSLB) lets anyone look up a contractor by license number or business name to see license status and complaint disclosure information. Check before you sign. Our license number is 782357 — you are welcome to look it up.
2. Are you bonded and insured?
Ask for confirmation of bonding and insurance. Peterson Grading & Paving, Inc. is fully licensed, bonded and insured.
3. Who prepares the estimate, and what is it based on?
An estimate is only as good as the person who wrote it. Ask whether the estimator has field experience and has seen the site. Our estimators have worked extensively in the field and base estimates on experience, not theory.
4. What exactly is in the scope?
- Is grading or base work included, or only the asphalt?
- How will drainage be handled?
- Are concrete, ADA features and striping included?
- How will traffic, access and phasing be managed?
5. How will you keep me informed?
Good contractors keep clients involved and informed from start to finish. Ask who your point of contact is and how schedule changes are communicated.
6. Can you provide references?
Referrals and repeat business are the best indicator of how a contractor works. Ask for references from similar projects. We provide references, budgets and estimates on request — contact us.
